FLASHBACK FRIDAYS
1997 was one of the heights of Timbaland’s beat making dominance. I really feel like this Timbaland and Magoo album was Timbaland’s opus. He had mastered his on and off pace beat making skills, and had aligned himself with some of the hottest acts of that time. Up Jump the Boogie was the first single off of that album. I did not appreciate this song when it first came out. I was like these people suck at rapping, and I still think lyrically it kinda sucks. But I don’t think that was the point. Look no further than the Aaliyah sung chorus to find out what this whole album was all about “We gon’ show you how we party”, and they definitely showed 17 year old me.
